Flash Fiction: Monopoly
Real Estate – it’s a risky business.
Want proof? Let’s try an experiment.
Take a handful of people and level the playing field. Everybody buys in with the same amount of money. Lottery winnings, family inheritance, years of saving—it doesn’t matter.
Begin.
Head into the world and buy up property. Even better if you can scoop up an entire development. Now you can make improvements. Houses, hotels—it’s up to you.
Sometimes you ride high. Sometimes, you’re down to your last buck. Your nerves are shot. You think you’re in control, but really you’re a slave to an impartial banker who doesn’t care if you win or lose.
You just need to pay the bills.
Can’t pay? You forfeit. Banker wins.
Again.
