Happy New Year
Happy New Year! It’s 2021 and a time for new beginnings.
It’s been a while since I’ve posted so I wanted to take a minute to update everyone on how things have gone and what’s in store for me and my writing over the next few months.
As you can imagine, releasing a novel during a pandemic wasn’t the easiest thing. Schools remain closed in El Paso, so my ability to get The Rescuer directly into the hands of teen and tween readers has been stunted. However, the book HAS sold, and many people have told me how much they love it. The reviews on Amazon have been resoundingly positive.
I used my time in “quarantine” to draft and edit a new novel – The Healer, sequel to The Rescuer. My 2021 goal is to secure representation and/or a publishing contract to get this next installment into the hands of anxious readers as quickly as possible.
One of the unique upsides to a Covid quarantine was how many writing resources got transferred online. This includes my local writing group, the El Paso Writer’s League. I’ve attended meetings in the past, but with all of them being conducted over Zoom, I was able to attend every month in 2020. I’m honored to get to know this group of local writers better and to give back to this community by serving as League Vice President in 2021.
For the foreseeable future, EPWL will be holding our meetings over Zoom. If you’re a writer, even if you aren’t local to El Paso, this is a great group to connect with. You can check out the league and review membership options here. We’d love to have you join us!
Our first meeting of 2021 will be held Sat, Jan 9, at 2 pm Mountain Time. I will be giving the inaugural presentation covering the topic of “Platform and Internet Presence.” You can find out more about the event here and even request an invite to join the presentation.
Another exciting opportunity I have is being able to speak on a MG/YA panel for the New Mexico Chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. The panel features recently published regional authors and will take place on Jan 9 at 11:30 am Mountain time. This event is also FREE, but you have to register to attend, which you can do here.
If you would like to stay more up-to-date with my writing news, you can subscribe to my monthly newsletter to get my updates directly in your inbox. As an added bonus, I’ll also send you the first two chapters of the The Rescuer completely FREE, just for subscribing.
